Current chapter programs include the following foci:
Economic Development
The Raleigh Alumnae Chapter sponsors a Black Business of the Month project which identifies and highlights Black owned and operated businesses in the Raleigh area and encourages community patronage of these businesses.
The chapter coordinates the Financial Fortitude & Economic Development session of the "Strengthening the Black Family Conference", both held annually in Wake County.
Educational Development
The chapter offers three educational programs for children and youth living in Wake County.
DELTA Carousel is an educational enrichment program open to girls and boys in grades K-12.
Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is an educational mentoring program for middle school girls ages 11-14 and the Dr. Jeanne L. Each year the Chapter sponsors the Charity Ball and a Golf Tournament to raise funds for college Scholarships. Graduating Wake County high school seniors may apply for the scholarships.
International Awareness
This program focuses on promoting a better understanding and deeper appreciation for the contributions and struggles of people and cultures different form one's own. Program goals are implemented through the scholarships of public programs, forums and travelogues involving international students and through donations of health care and personal hygiene equipment and supplies to refugees settlements in Africa as well as other countries.
We also participate in Operation Christmas Child, The Heifer Project and donate funds to the Thika Hospital (nationally sponsored). The chapter hosted a joint International Day of Service - HIV/AIDS with all Wake County chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Physical and Mental Health
Physical and Mental Health emphasizes the promotion of physical and mental wellness. Implementation strategies include sponsorship of health-oriented workshops and programs. In recent years, Raleigh Alumnae has focused on cancer detection, breast self-exams and healthy eating. The Chapter has collaborated with Healthy Wake 2000 and the Poe Health Education Center to help sponsor health screening fair for women, a walking program, and tips on how to eat healthy.
Political Awareness and Involvement
The chapter's program promotes community awareness and action in regard to political issues impacting human welfare. As a public service sorority, the chapter does not support or endorse candidates for political office. We do ,however, recognize, encourage, applaud and condone efforts to ensure that all persons are knowledgeable about the issues and impact of legislation on the local, state and national level.
We have recently partnered with the NAACP to participate in voter registration-voter education activities. Our members have actively participated in Delta Days at the Nations Capitol, as well as, served as organizers for Delta Days in the State Capitol.
